This caused a series of access problems during lunchtime despite having emergency servers available to handle heavy traffic.
Heavy traffic has caused major connectivity issues in the COOV app, which authenticates vaccination status using QR codes.

Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency stated that it had added emergency servers overnight to handle increased traffic. However, many restaurants and workers in Seoul’s offices experienced outages the second day at lunchtime.

A 60-year old office worker stated that she used the Naver app’s shake function to verify my vaccinations. However, it did not work correctly.

After authenticating himself using Kakao Talk, he said that he could finally enter a restaurant.

According to a 27-year old cram school instructor, “I was stunned when the QR codes failed on both the KakaoTalk and Naver applications.”

She said the government’s vaccine pass system seemed under prepared as of now, and added she plans to visit her local community centre to get a sticker proving her vaccination status before heading to work.

Many restaurant and cafe owners were also infuriated by the extended outage.

Businesses can be fined 1.5 million won ($1,260) if they fail to abide by the vaccine pass system.

“I’m worried over potential connection errors continuing today,” a Japanese restaurant owner said.

He recalled his experience of keeping customers in line due to the connection issue on Monday as being “warlike”.
