Muzaffarnagar (Dec 13th, IANS) An 20-year old youth was cleaning the drainpipe on his terrace in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar when the iron rod that he was holding accidentally touched an overhead high tension cable.Pradeep Singh’s sister Pinki, 18, was electrocuted while trying to save him.
It took place in Gujjarhedi on Saturday night.
Sompal Singh (the father of the victims) claimed that he called the electricity department after his children died but was not answered.
None of them dared touch the bodies until the power was turned off.
We have complained to power departments repeatedly about the need to disconnect the high-tension overhead cables in our residential areas, but no one has responded.”
Local people, as well as members of Bhartiya Kisan Sangathan’s farm organization, staged demonstrations at the site, demanding that the family of the deceased be compensated.
Dharmveer Saini, an engineer in the electricity department, said: “The family of the dead would be given Rs 5 lakh for each victim.”
He added that a deadline had been fixed for removal of the high-tension cables.
Mukesh Solanki, station house officer, Titavi police station, said that though no case has so far been registered, investigations are on.
