New Delhi (12/12/2008) A special PMLA court has given five days custody to Panna Lal Mahato (ED), to help him amass huge assets in Jharkhand and Delhi as a result of illegal human trafficking activities.Mahot, also known as Ganjhu and a Khunti resident in Jharkhand was twice arrested by the police but was released on bail.
According to the ED, multiple cases against Mahot were filed in Khunti (Ranchi) and Delhi for various offences related to kidnapping, traficking, etc.
He had connections in Delhi, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.He used to run a Panna Lal Placement Agency in Delhi.Mahto is believed to have trafficked in excess of 5,000 persons.
He was recently lodged at Birsa Mundra Central Jail in Ranchi.On the basis FIRs filed by Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Khunti Police and Jharkhand in relation to Mahto’s human trafficking offenses, the ED opened a money laundering investigation.
Money Laundering probe revealed that Panna Lal Mahto has amassed huge property in Jharkhand, Delhi and other States from the activities related to illegal human trafficking.During the investigation conducted under PMLA, various immovable properties in the form of land in Ranchi and Khunti districts have been identified to have been acquired by Mahto out of the proceeds of crime.
“Mahto and his accomplices are also operating various bank accounts having a number of high value transactions, which appear to have been acquired and transacted out of proceeds of crime,” the probe agency added.Further investigation is under progress.
