This allows the world body to deploy more military and police capabilities faster. The world is now facing the most violent conflicts since 1945.

Conflicts are more complicated and longer because of the Covid-19 pandemic and climate crisis. In a video message, he said that peacekeeping has never been more important and that its success is more urgent than ever.

He stated that “we still face significant gaps within our missions, especially in aviation and high-tech capabilities.”

Mali is a country that requires helicopters and medical evacuation teams to cover vast terrain that is not accessible by road or river. Many missions require long-range unmanned aircraft systems, including those in the Central African Republic. These systems are vital to civilian protection because they allow peacekeepers to see what is happening around them day and night.

“We need your support to ensure that we deploy well-trained troops with the right equipment.Guterres stated that uniformed peacekeepers often lack the skills to administer first assistance, plan and conduct a patrol, or assess information and identify threats.

“We must invest in triangular partnerships that are sustainable and long-lasting between countries with resources, countries that provide troops and police, as well as the UN to provide solid training for our peacekeepers.”

He also called for efforts in preventing and addressing misconduct by a small group of peacekeeping personnel (especially sexual exploitation or abuse) and to promote gender parity within UN peacekeeping.
