Narasimha Rao, Advani, Rajiv Gandhi share blame for Babri demolition: IANS-CVoter snap poll

New Delhi, Dec 6 : Blame seems to be equally divided between the top leadership of the Congress and the BJP over the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992, whose 30th anniversary begins on Monday, as per an IANS-CVoter snap poll.

This was revealed by a nationwide poll conducted with a sample size of 1942 using random sampling on December 5, 2021.

Respondents had the option of choosing one of the three politicians they believed was more responsible for the demolition.Analysts would have expected that top BJP leaders were to be held responsible for the act.But the results were surprising.

The largest share of the blame went to former Prime Minister the late P.V.36.6 percent of respondents identified Narashima Rao as the one responsible for the demolition.L.K.Advani, a former deputy Prime Minister and leader of BJP, closely followed him.Advani.The surprise package was the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was held responsible for the act even though he was assassinated 18 months prior to the actual demolition.

There isn’t any apparent deep polarization on this issue between the parties.32.4 percent of NDA voters hold Advani accountable, while 37.6% of opposition voters hold him accountable.Similar results can be seen in the opposition.While 36.1 percent of NDA voters hold Rao accountable, 35.2 percent hold him responsible.Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in 1991, as we mentioned earlier.P.V.Narashima Rao was at that time the prime minister and L.K.Advani was present at the site when the disputed structure fell.
