Beirut, November 20 : , Lebanese President Michel Aoun stated Saturday that Lebanon wants to sign a maritime boundary demarcation agreement with Israel, which would allow the country to continue investing in its natural resources.According to a statement from Lebanon’s Presidency,According to Xinhua, Aoun said during his meeting in Washington with a US delegation that “Lebanon is looking forward to resuming direct US-mediated negotiations” with Israel.
Aoun was also informed by Darrell Issa, a US congressman who expressed his willingness to provide assistance to Lebanon’s military institutions.
He stated that members of Congress were interested in revitalizing Lebanon’s economic and institutional work, while also allowing Lebanon to use its natural resources to boost its economy and decrease the exodus of its young people.
In October 2020, a US mediator initiated negotiations between Israel and Lebanon at Naqoura’s UN Peacekeeping Mission.However, the talks quickly stalled.
The crisis-plagued Lebanon needs to find commercial gas resources in its waters.
