It now heads to the Senate for changes.
After a long speech by Kevin McCarthy, the House Republican Leader on Thursday night to defer the final vote, the House passed “Build Back Better,” bill with a vote 220-213.

According to Xinhua, the bill contains $555 billion for climate and clean energy investments and $400 billion for funding child care.It also includes $200 billion for earned income and child tax credit credits.

There is $150 billion for home care for disabled and elderly Americans.

Biden stated that the vote “puts us on the track to rebuild our economy better than ever before by rebuilding America’s backbone: the working people and middle class.”

On Thursday, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), estimated that $1.64 trillion would be allocated in federal new spending for the next ten years. The bill’s tax credits would be added to the total spending, bringing the number to $2.4 trillion. This is well beyond Biden’s original framework of a $1.75 billion package.

According to the White House, the structure would generate revenue in excess of $2 trillion per decade. This will be enough to pay the entire social spending plan.

The CBO however estimated that legislation would raise the deficit by $367Billion over 10 years. This does not include any revenue generated from additional tax enforcement funding.
