Athens : , November 19th, 2009 – Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitchells announced that the country will tighten its restrictions on the non-vaccinated and ban their access to indoor space starting Monday.This is part of an effort to fight the fourth wave in the Covid-19 pandemic.Mitsotakis gave a live televised address in response to mounting pressure on the healthcare system, including an increase in hospital admissions, daily infections and intubated patients.He reiterated his plea for citizens to be vaccinated as quickly as they can.
According to Xinhua, Greece had 7,317 Covid-19 new infections and 63 deaths within the past 24 hours.
More than 7 million Greeks have been vaccinated to date (3 out of 4 adults).The Greek leader stated that 1.5 million people have been vaccinated more than six months back and are in need of a booster shot.575,000 older citizens remain unvaccinated.
He said that as many as 90% of the patients admitted to intensive care aren’t vaccinated.
According to the Prime Minister, the government is not pursuing a lockdown, but persuasion, rather than bans or expansions of mandated vaccinations.He also stated that additional measures must be implemented until sufficient people have booked appointments for strengthening the immunization wall.
He announced that as of November 22nd, unvaccinated individuals will no longer be permitted to enter theatres, cinemas and museums or other indoor recreational halls.They could only enter with negative rapid tests or PCR.
Unvaccinated people have been barred from entering cafeterias and restaurants, both indoors and outdoors.
Mitsotakis stated that vaccination certificates issued to citizens older than 60 years old will be considered invalid seven months after they were issued.
Only if the third dose is given, their certificates can be renewed.They will be treated unvaccinated, and they won’t be considered full vaccinated.
