Andhra Pradesh police are cracking down on the smuggling of cannabis in the state.The Andhra Pradesh state govt has introduced ‘Operation Parivarthan’ to combat the smuggling and cultivation of cannabis in the state.
As part of ‘Operation Parivarthan’, cannabis eradication programs are underway in Visakhapatnam Agency.
Police are enlightening the tribal people in the agency areas on the ill effects of cannabis.
Special Enforcement Bureau units along with the police department are conducting daily raids on cannabis plantations as per the orders of the state government.
Heavy cannabis plantations were ravaged in several areas on Sunday.
Special Enforcement Bureau Joint Director Shankar Reddy said 288 acres of cannabis plantations in Chintapalli, G.Madugula and Dumbrigade zones were destroyed.
Beeram Panchayat in G.Madugula Zone near Beeram, Gaddibandalu, Anarbha, Venkatapalam, Chelamarangi villages, Dumbriguda Zone Korrai Panchayati Ganjiguda, 15 acres near Kandrum villages, Chintapalli Zone Annavaram Police Station Bureau and police teams destroyed 211 acres of cannabis cultivation.In the villages of Bennavaram, Lothugedda and Annavaram in the Chintapalli zone, art groups created awareness among the tribals through songs and dance metaphors on the ill effects due to cannabis.
