The lockdown imposed by the Telangana state government to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the state is exhibiting good results in terms of pollution control.The statistics have revealed that the air quality has improved due to curfews and back-to-back lockdowns.
Environmentalists say that the back-to-back lockdowns and curfews have significantly reduced pollution levels in the city.They said that the pollution increased post-lockdown last year.
However, pollution levels in Hyderabad have decreased again due to the lockdown imposed.
Environment experts say that noise pollution declined in cities and towns due to lockdowns.
The city of Hyderabad entered the green zone within a week of lockdown.Air pollution has been drastically reduced and the air quality index has improved as industries have closed and there is no vehicular traffic in Hyderabad.
Environmentalists say people who used to be exposed to pollution daily are now able to breathe fresh air.
The Hyderabad Air Quality Index averaged 25 points.Looking at the air quality index standards announced by the Telangana Pollution Board, areas like Malakpet and Bagh Lingampally recorded 25 points, Sherilingampally and Kondapur recorded 30 points, and Zoopark recorded 41 points.Prior to the lockdown, air pollution in these areas was recorded at 90 to 110 points.
