Postpone Municipal polls in Telangana: Shabbir Ali approached HC

Telangana Congress leader, Shabbir Ali has approached the High Court seeking a postponement in the upcoming municipal elections in Telangana.He has filed a lunch motion petition in the High Court seeking postponement of the elections in the wake of the corona.

The number of corona cases has been on the rise for the last 12 days.However, the High Court accepted the petition for a hearing.The High Court will hear the petition at 2.30 pm.

The state election commission recently released the schedule for the conduct of elections for five municipalities, including Khammam and Warangal corporations as the term of the governing bodies of Khammam and Warangal corporations has ended.

Elections will also be held for Achanpeta, Jadcharla, Kothuru, Siddipeta Nakirekal municipalities as well as for one vacant ward under GHMC.

The polling will be held on the 30th of this month and the counting will take place on May 3.

Elections will be held in 66 divisions in Warangal and 60 divisions in Khammam.Elections are being held now as the tenure of these governing bodies has come to an end.Shabbir Ali, however, approached the high court seeking a postponement in the polls due to the corona outbreak.
