Volvo releases R&D files that were stolen in cyberattack

San Francisco, December 12, 2012 : .Volvo Cars released a statement that confirmed a security breach that was caused by a cyberattack.
According to XDA Developers, the company now knows that one of its file repositories was illegally accessed.

“Investigagations have shown that only a small amount of R&D property belonging to the company was stolen in the intrusion.

Volvo Cars stated that it had earlier concluded, on the basis of information, that there could be an effect on company operations.

It added that “After discovering the unauthorised access, company implemented security countermeasures including measures to prevent further access and notified relevant authorities.”

According to the statement, the attack had no “impact on the safety of their customers’ cars and their personal data.”

But they conditioned the statement by saying this was only based on their “currently available information”.
