San Francisco Dec 30, : .San Francisco and other Bay Area counties announced that they would revoke the exemptions from the mask mandate for people who are fully vaccinated in settings other than homes.
This is because Covid-19 cases have continued to rise due to highly contagious Omicron variant.On Wednesday, San Francisco, Marin, and Alameda County canceled the exemptions they had retained just two weeks prior to California’s reinstatement.
These new counties will take effect on Thursday at 12:01 AM.
According to Xinhua, San Francisco also cancelled its annual New Year’s Eve fireworks display on Tuesday.
Contra Costa County made the same move on Tuesday to cancel exemptions.
According to the analysis of San Francisco Chronicle and state data, San Francisco had 805 reported cases on Tuesday.
This is the most number of single-day incidents ever recorded.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the actual numbers could be much higher as many people take home antigen testing and don’t report the results.
