UP, Guj top list of states that can build the most house within PMAY (U)

New Delhi, Aug 12 : States such as Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh top the list with the highest amount of homes built under the flagship government urban housing scheme PMAY (U).
Housing for All is one of the most important flagship programs that is being carried out by the federal government.It aims to provide pucca houses that are all-weather to all beneficiaries who are eligible in cities of the country.

In 2017, the initial anticipated demand was 100 lakh homes.

Contrary to this initial projected demand, 102 lakh homes are in construction.Furthermore out of these 62 lakh homes have been built.

According to the latest data of the Ministry of Housing, Uttar Pradesh is the top state of states with construction of more than 10.5 lakh homes.Gujareat is second with more than 6.83 thousand houses.In the same way, states such as Maharashtra as well as Madhya Pradesh have recorded construction of 6.2 lakh and 4.8 lakh houses under the PMAY (U) scheme.

The Central government on Wednesday authorized the continuation of its housing scheme of the year, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U) through 2024.

The ministry says that the plans of 40 lakh homes were not received until in late (during the last two years of scheme) from states/UTs that need another two years to finish the project.

Based on requests of the states/UTs the Union Cabinet decided to extend the period of implementation of PMAY-U to 2024.

In addition states and UTs were advised to accelerate the construction of approved houses.

The scheme is implemented by four verticals, including Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), In-situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR) and Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS).

The Centre offers financial aid, states and UTs implement the scheme, which includes the selection of recipients.

Up to March 31st, 2022 Central Assistance and Subsidy of the amount of 1,18,020.46 crore has been released.the sum of Rs 85,406 crore will be released until November 21, 2024 as part of the scheme.
