San Francisco, Aug 6 : The majority of genres of mobile games saw decreases in downloading and sending in the first six months of 2022 with the market overall for mobile gaming dipping 9.6 percent over the course of the year according to a new study.Based on a report from Sensor Tower Game Intelligence data the market for mobile gaming fell to $11.4 billion in the first half of 2022.Arcade games and Tabletop games were the only two categories that saw growth in revenue.
Revenue from arcade games increased 14.8 percent year-over-year, to about $176 million.Other genres such as hypercasual to RPG — fell, AppleInsider reported.
Racing games experienced the biggest decrease with an 28.8 percent drop in revenue year-over-year.Meanwhile, geolocation-augmented games fell 26 percent in the same time frame.
In addition to the decline in revenue mobile game downloads decreased by 2.5 percent over the past year to 2.4 billion.
Revenues for the first quarter of 2022 fell by 11.4 percent to $5.6 billion, however downloads remained relatively steady at 1.2 billion.
The report attributes the general decline in the market for mobile gaming to a range of obstacles and headwinds, including inflation, the expiration of Covid-19 lockdowns, as well as privacy changes such as the removal of the IDFA tag.
