Although Microsoft released its Emoji in Windows 11 last year and 3D versions in Microsoft Teams in February however, the company had not initially thought of making it open source for its work.

“Initially we were focused on creating the foundation of work that we had done,” Jon Friedman, Microsoft’s CVP of research and design was quoted as saying in an interview.

“The idea was a bit of began to circulate and it was in line with our beliefs and perspectives that the more open we are both internally and outwardly, the better product quality we can create and also the more useful we will be for the entirety of the world,” Friedman added.

According to the report Microsoft spent an enormous amount of time working on designing for inclusiveness and diverse requirements of Emojis that are used by different religions, people and even countries.

More than 1500 Emojis were created, which have custom skin tones, with vibrant and saturated colors as well as a focus on having fun in the workplace.

Even Clippy was launched as a replacement for paper clip emoji.

However, it’s one of the few that will not be open-sourced because of legal requirements surrounding Microsoft’s trademarks, according to the report.

Creators will have the ability take the majority of Microsoft’s vibrant and vibrant 3D Emojis and remix the images into stickers, incorporate them in content, or design unique sets of Emojis.
