Johannesburg 11 August : The long-running relationship between Faf du Plessis and the four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings was broken in IPL 2022’s auction, a massive one.Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired his services and appointed him captain of the team.
However, the du Plessis-CSK partnership, that was in place from 2011 until 2021, excluding 2016 and 2017, when the franchise was banned from the IPL and could be reunited again, this time in South Africa’s new T20 League.

A report from Cricbuzz reports that the Chennai Super Kings management has recruited in the former South Africa captain as their marquee signing for their Johannesburg franchise in the CSA T20 League.

The inaugural season of the league scheduled to start in the month of January in 2023, will be played by six teams which are all controlled by IPL franchise owners.

“Wednesday (August 10) was the final day for direct purchase of players in the six-team league which will be launched in the first quarter of next year.

A confidentiality clause was in place and confidentiality clause, the six franchises which are all owned by IPL teams, were unable to divulge their most-loved players however Cricbuzz is able to confirm that du Plessis, a former CSK regular and CSK regular, is now returning with his former team,” stated the report.

Six franchises in the T20 league will be able to have an entire squad of 17 players.They can pre-sign up up to five players comprised of three international players as well as one Proteas player, and one uncapped South African player prior to the auction.

The report also said that speedster Anrich Nortje as well as all-rounder Aiden Markram have been signed up by Pretoria and Port Elizabeth teams, owned by Delhi Capitals and SunRisers Hyderabad respectively.

It also said it was reported that Rajasthan Royals, with Paarl as their home have brought Jos Buttler on board , while Sanjiv Goenka’s Lucknow Super Giants, having bought the Durban team, has acquired the expertise of wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock.

Reliance Industries, who own IPL side Mumbai Indians and have a sister franchise in South Africa named as “MI Cape Town” It is believed that they have signed Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan for the CSA T20 League.

South Africa’s T20 League will be directly competing with the UAE’s International League T20 (ILT20) which will also be held in January of next year.

It will also be in the time of the operation of the Australian Big Bash League (BBL) and Bangladesh’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
