Madonne Ashwin wins Best Director for ‘Mandela’ at 26th Asian Television Awards

Chennai, December 12, 2012 : .Director Madonne Ashwin won Best Direction (Fiction), at the 26th Asian Television Awards, for the critically-acclaimed Tamil film Mandela, which featured Yogi Babu as the main character.
Madonne Ashwin spoke to IANS and expressed her happiness about the award, saying that it was “good to know that Mandela has been awarded this award.” It is the first time the film has received international recognition.

Ashwin stated that ‘Mandela” was the first television program to be telecast.Therefore, they could apply for it in Asian Television Awards.

“Mandela” was nominated in Original Screenplay Best Editing, Best Film and Best Direction.Ashwin noted that it won in the Best Direction category.

The Asian Television Awards seeks to recognise programming and production excellence in the Asian television industry.

The award ceremony is held every December.

Awards are presented in 56 categories across news, documentaries & current affairs, kids and animation, entertainment, drama, technical, digital as well as performances including acting and directing.
