The 93rd Academy Awards happened a few hours back on Monday morning, with no host, no audience, nor face masks for nominees as they observed social distancing attending the event at Los Angeles.The Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress for Frances McDormand – all three major awards were won by the film ‘Nomadland‘.
This is the most awards won by any film in this edition.Nomadland’s Chloe Zhao became the second woman in history to get the Best Director Award.
She is also the first non-white woman to achieve this feat.
The best actor award was won by Anthony Hopkins for ‘The Father‘.
Interestingly, Anthony Hopkins is the oldest actor ever to win an Academy Award at the age of 83.This is the 2nd Oscar for Anthony Hopkins and comes nearly thirty years after his first in 1992, for playing Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs.Hopkins has been nominated 4 times since without a win.Along with Anthony Hopkins’ win, the movie “The Father” also won best-adapted screenplay.Tenet‘ could only manage to win the Best Visual Effects Award.
Indian actor Irrfan Khan and costume designer Bhanu Athaiya, who passed away last year, were remembered in the Oscars Memoriam.
