On Thursday, Telangana HC Chief Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B Vijayasen Reddy have ordered the Telangana government to ban crackers for this Diwali festival.

As a result, the Telangana government has reportedly decided to direct the officials for the closure of cracker shops and to file cases against violators.

The court has also directed the government to take up the awareness programs about the ban on crackers.

The panel has decided in response to a writ petition filed by a practising advocate, Indra Prakash.According to the reports, Indra Prakash has filed the PIL seeking court directions to ban crackers during the festival celebrations.

In the PIL, Indra Prakash stated that air pollution due to firecrackers would cause problems to Covid-19 patients as the viral infection affects the respiratory system.

Keeping in mind about the ban of firecrackers in states like Rajasthan and West Bengal, the panel decided in favour of Indra Prakash.

Accordingly, the court has also directed the government to file an action taken report on November 19.The Chief Justice has ordered the State government to announce the ban through print and electronic media.
