The website of Air India has crashed due to unprecedented traffic after the airline announced to celebrate the merger with the Indian Airlines by offering tickets with base fare of Rs 100 (taxes and other charges extra) starting Wednesday.

As the website was unable handle the large number of passengers, it has stopped running since midnight.

The website went down, with a message on the website reading – “Service Unavailable”.Another link to book tickets on Air India showed a “System Busy” message.

The sale of these tickets will start from August 27 and close on August 31, a five-day booking.The discount is available only for online booking and for travel during the period of August 27-September 30.

Air India is celebrating ‘Air India Day’ as it was amalgamated with erstwhile Indian Airlines into one airline on August 27, 2007.On this day, in 2007 the airline merged Indian Airlines, the erstwhile state-run domestic carrier.

Officials said that they will restore the services by end of today.
