The home guard, Nagam Ravinder, who attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze near the commandant office in Goshamahal succumbed to injuries.Ravinder passed away while receiving treatment at Apollo DRDO Hospital in Kanchanbagh.
Despite the dedicated efforts of medical professionals, including the use of a ventilator and extensive treatment for severe burns covering 70% of his body, Ravinder’s condition deteriorated, leading to his untimely demise.
Ravinder attempted suicide for reportedly for not receiving payment for two months.
His remains have been moved to Osmania Mortuary.In response to this tragic situation, local authorities have heightened security measures at the DRDO hospital to maintain order and safety.
In response to Ravinder’s death, Home Guards working with the Telangana State Police department have gathered outside Osmania Hospital.They have been advocating for the regularisation of their services and other basic needs for an extended period.
The heart-wrenching incident unfolded when Ravinder, driven to despair by a delayed bank EMI payment resulting from the delayed receipt of his salary, resorted to self-immolation in front of authorities.This devastating event occurred at the Shainayatganj police station on Tuesday.
Following the incident, Ravinder was swiftly transported to Osmania Hospital, and as his condition worsened, he was transferred to Apollo DRDO Hospital.
Veera Srinivasulu, speaking to media, told that there are approximately 2000 homeguards in the traffic department, and the issues they face are prevalent among all homeguards.
Despite the government’s issuance of safety measures, they have not been implemented effectively.Additionally, many homeguards lost their lives due to COVID-19, and their families were left without assistance and support.
