The Telangana Pradesh Election Committee (TPEC), which met at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday, 3 September, vetted the applications that were recently received for the Assembly seats.

The list of the candidates for each seat is expected to be presented before the Screening Committee, which will meet for three days from Monday in Hyderabad.

Committee chairman K Muralidharan, members Jignesh Mevani and Baba Siddiqui, and ex officio members — Telangana in-charge Manikrao Thakre, TPCC president A Revanth Reddy, MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy and CLP Leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka — will reportedly prepare the final list and send it to the party high command for approval.

After the PEC meeting, Revanth Reddy said that the list finalised by it would be handed over to the screening committee in a sealed cover.

The screening committee would meet with PEC members individually on Monday and elicit their opinions on the candidates who were seeking tickets for the Assembly seats.

The committee would also confer with DCC presidents and senior leaders.

On 6 September, the screening committee would study the PEC report on the candidates.

The panel would then send the final list to the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC).

“We are doing our best to release the first list as early as possible,” said Revanth Reddy, adding that this was being done in the most transparent way possible.

“This time, BCs [referring to candidates from Backward Classes] will get priority in the allotment of tickets. The selection will depend on local factors and the caste equations in the constituency concerned,” he said.

The TPCC president also said that the list released by the CEC would be final.“Even I will not know who has got a ticket and who hasn’t until the list is released,” he said.
