Local police sources said the death toll was likely to increase as more bodies might be buried under the debris.

The body discovered on Monday was without a head, a police officer said, adding that it was recovered later at some distance in the backyard of the warehouse in Duttapukur.

“The incident of the head being severed from the body and recovered at a distance gives an estimation of how powerful the impact of the blast was.On Monday, the police also recovered a severed palm. However, it was not from the body as it had both its palms intact,” the officer added.

Meanwhile, tension isbrewing in the area as locals have alleged that if the police had taken timely action against frequent complaints related to the illegal warehouse, the tragedy could have been averted,

On Sunday.Governor C.V.Ananda Bose targeted “Kanyashree Prakalpa”, a conditional state cash transfer scheme aimed at improving lives of girl children and pet project of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as he criticised the state government over the blast.

Bose said that “Kanyashree” will never be successful unless the lives of the “Kanya (daughters)” are secured.

State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar has written a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe in the matter.

The state’s ruling Trinamool Congress has accused the opposition of unnecessarily politicising an accident.
