Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, an actress, and filmmaker Shekhar Kapur were married for 12 years before separating in 1999.In 2020, they made headlines again due to a property dispute.
In a recent interview, Suchitra opened up about her tumultuous marriage with Shekhar, revealing her teenage infatuation with him, his infidelity, and the challenges they faced.
Growing up in a strict household, Suchitra managed to establish herself in regional and Hindi cinema despite the obstacles.
Her role alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the film “Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa” made her popular among fans.However, her acting career suffered because her husband Shekhar Kapur did not support her ambitions in the film industry.
Suchitra Krishnamoorthi shared with Siddharth Kannan that her husband didn’t want her to act.Although she came from a non-filmy background, she started receiving film offers while still in high school.She even got the opportunity to play a role in “Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa” while in college.
Despite her success, Shekhar Kapur insisted that she should not pursue acting.
Suchitra admitted that, at the time, she was too naive to understand why someone would discourage her from working.However, her lack of ambition and belief that her talents alone would sustain her made it less of a concern for her.Unfortunately, her idyllic mindset was shattered as her life took an unexpected turn.
Suchitra Krishnamoorthi also revealed in the interview that she met Shekhar Kapur when she was 19 and married him at the age of 22.Within the first year of their marriage, problems arose, making her contemplate divorce.However, her plans changed when she discovered she was pregnant with their daughter, Kaveri Kapur.
When questioned about infidelity, Suchitra admitted that Shekhar had been unfaithful during their marriage.
In terms of her recent work, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi was last seen in the Amazon Prime Video series “Guilty Minds,” which was released in 2022.
