‘The Kerala Story’ is one film that stirred controversy and has been hitting the headlines for the past few weeks. The controversy surrounding this film created a lot of curiosity among the public as it was labelled as a true story.
The collections are very encouraging and it is more than what money ‘Rama Banam’ and ‘Ugram’ earned this weekend in Hyderabad. The Telugu version did not come out due to the censor issues but the collections would have been more if it was dubbed in Telugu as well.
The hard-hitting content in the movie is connecting well with the audience. In the meanwhile, though the makers claim that the story is based on real life incidents in Kerala and hugely publicised it as a mass tragedy of 32,000 girls who were converted to Islam forcefully and kidnapped by ISIS terror agency, but there are a few people pointing out that ‘The Kerala Story’ is not an original movie but got inspired by a Swedish thriller series named ‘Caliphate’.
This series arrived in 2020 and it is available on Netflix. The 8-episode series revolves around four girls who were brainwashed by ISIS terrorists. The backdrop of Europe has been shifted to Kerala for this movie and the similarities are pretty visible according to them.
‘The Kerala Story’ shares a striking resemblance to the Swedish series and ‘Caliphate’ is available to watch in India as the English dubbed version can be seen on Netflix. The movie is banned from Kerala and Tamil Nadu multiplexes due to safety reasons but it is not the case in Andhra and Telangana.
