Despite some big releases, the Hindi film industry did not see much success in the first quarter of 2023, with only a few films delivering big at the box office.

Siddiqui disagrees with the idea that only tentpole films will now draw audiences to cinema halls.

He believes that it is the lavishly mounted films that are actually bringing the industry down. These films, he says, are hollow when it comes to script, storytelling, direction, and even performances.

He wonders what the director and actors are doing in such films, which often just have five songs designed by choreographers and action done by action designers.

The actor, who was part of a big film last year that was a box office disaster, says that hastily put together projects featuring actors no one is interested in watching are still being invested in heavily by the industry.

These films cost between INR 60-100 crores, but people do not want to watch them because they have nothing to offer.Siddiqui believes that the industry should invest in actors who the public loves instead.

He says that the industry has never made a film for INR 50 crores with a good actor, preferring instead to cast ten to fifteen actors together in hastily put together projects that end up flopping.Siddiqui believes that the industry’s actors keep coming back despite being rejected by the audience, while the public’s actors are not given the opportunity to even reach the audience.

Siddiqui’s upcoming romantic-comedy Jogira Sara Ra Ra, directed by Kushan Nandy and jointly produced by Kiran Shroff and Naeem Siddiqui, is set to release on May 12.It also stars Neha Sharma, who was introduced to the Telugu audience with the movie ‘Chirutha’.
