AP Pharma firm director arrested for smuggling medicines

Mumbai Customs officials arrested Sanagala Sridhar Reddy, 46, director of Safe Pharmaceuticals Limited at Narasaraopet in Guntur district, for supplying and illegally trafficking psychotropic substance Tramadol tablets, worth crores of rupees.

Customs officials said that Sridhar Reddy’s company allegedly supplied Tramadol to other firms which smuggled it to Sudan and other countries via Cargo.

The Central Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Customs department ntercepted a consignment before it could be shipped to a pharmacy in Juba in South Sudan.Offiicials seized around 10 lakh Tramadol tablets worth approximately Rs 21 crore.

“The consignment was allegedly misdeclared as Tamol-X-225, a calcium carbonate tablet.In March we arrested a Bengaluru -based resident Gudipait Subramaniyam, chief operating officer of First Wealth Solutions.

During the investigation, it was found that Safe Pharma of Andhra Pradesh has provided the Tramadol tablets to First Wealth Solutions.On April 20, Sridhar Reddy was arrested as he is the authorised signatory for the company,” said a Customs official.

Customs is probing into the allegations that the firm had provided 3.31 crore strips of tablets of unknown drug to First Wealth Solutions in the past.Customs arrested the accused under Narcotics Drugs and Psytropic Substances (NDPS) act.
