Mumbai 12th of September : India on Monday announced their 15-member team for the coming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, with fit-again Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, who will be making their return.India’s team for the World Cup in Australia is generally in line with expectations and only has a few minor changes from the 15 who participated in the recent Asia Cup 2022.
The two Bumrah and Harshal missed the multi-nation event in the UAE due to injuries.Their return to the marquee tournament will strengthen the team’s fast-bowling ranks.
Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are the two other pacers in the team along with the all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
However, the team led by Rohit Sharma will be missing the participation of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who sustained an injury to his right knee in the Asia Cup and recently underwent an operation.
Left-handed Axar Patel will take over in as a substitute for Jadeja.Aside from Axar, R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel are the two other specialist spinners.
The Asia Cup squad, the likes of Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan have been replaced by Bumrah and Harshal while Deepak Hooda is still in his place.
Avesh who conceded an average of 12 runs per game in two of the games he was in before being disqualified with an illness.
However wrist spinner Ravi Bishnoi played a solitary game against Pakistan but was not selected for the following game despite being in good form.
The batting unit is similar to the one that played in the Asia Cup with captain Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik all on board.
Mohammed Shami, the pacer has been selected as standby player with fellow pacers Deepak Chahar Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Chahar and batter Shreyas Iyer.
In conjunction with the T20 World Cup, the All-India Senior Selection Committee also selected India’s teams for the coming home T20I series against Australia and South Africa at home.
World Cup standbys Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar have been named in the squads set to be playing Australia as well as South Africa in the build-up to the marquee event.Although Shami hasn’t played T20Is since the last World Cup, Chahar made his international T20I return against Afghanistan in India’s final Asia Cup game.
The duo will step in to replace Arshdeep Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya.The trio will be at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to work on conditioning at different times throughout the course of these two home games.
While Arshdeep will not be able to play in the match against Australia, Bhuvneshwar and Hardik will miss the next game against South Africa.
“Hardik Pandya,” Arshdeep Singh, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will report to the NCA for conditioning-related activities throughout the course of the home series against Australia and South Africa,” the BCCI stated in an announcement.
Australia will play three T20Is at Mohali (September 20), Nagpur (September 23) and Hyderabad (September 25) while South Africa will start their tour with T20Is at Thiruvananthapuram (September 28), Guwahati (October 2) and Indore (October 4).
India will also face the Proteas in three-match ODI series before the World Cup, the squad for which will be announced in the coming days.
