Pak approves $13 million in aid for flood victims

Islamabad Sep 9, : The Pakistan government has approved 3 billion PKR ($13 millions) in funds for providing aid to the people affected by the devastating floods.
The Finance Ministry said that at the session of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet and it was decided that the government would contribute the funds to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to purchase aid and rescue operations as well as rehabilitation of the flood-hit people as reported by Xinhua news agency.

The government will offer an additional 540 million PKR to stores for utility services in the areas affected by flooding to ensure a steady supply of essential items to the affected population.

The state-owned news agency of Pakistan Associated Press of Pakistan reported that the utility stores have been taking an active role in the relief efforts of providing vital food items in areas affected by flooding in partnership with the provincial government.

In light of the emergency situation and following the initial need assessment, 113,700 ration bags amounted up to the sum of 540 million PKR will be distributed to families affected by the floods in the report.

The number of deaths in the deadly floods that were caused by the incessant monsoons since mid-June amounted to 1,391 as of Friday, with 12,722 others injured according to the most recent NDMA update.

In addition, 1,739,166 homes have been destroyed, and estimated 754,708 animals have been killed.

The NDMA update also revealed that 177,265 people had been rescued while 663,869 are currently in camps.

Operations for relief and rescue are currently in progress in the areas affected by flooding.
