Tushar Gandhi in the PIL had questioned the redevelopment plan proposed by the state government in the belief that it would lose its ethos if redevelopment gets permitted.

After hearing the petitioners as well as all the respondents, the main court of Chief Justice Arvind K.Kumar and Justice A.J.Shashtri rejected the petition by observing: “The Gandhi Ashram spread over five acres of the land will remain in place, and there’s not a intention to disrupt it by the federal government. And the government will honor its commitment to preserve the ashram in its current condition.”

“We believe that the government should honor and adhere to its adherence in spirit and letter while developing the surrounding areas.the government plans to propagate Gandhi philosophy, ideology and philosophy throughout the world and will expand the area in collaboration with the Sabarmati Ashram Preservation Trust, of Sabarmati Ashram Preservation Memorial Trust and other trusts and educational institutes founded by Gandhi,” the court observed.
