Huawei launches the Mate 50 series with satellite connectivity ahead of Apple

New Delhi, Sep 7 : As Apple is believed to be launching the iPhone 14 with satellite connectivity option, Chinese tech company Huawei has introduced the Mate 50 smartphone series that allows users to send text messages using satellite communications.
The Mate 50 and Mate 50 Pro smartphones allow users to send short messages via China’s world-wide BeiDou satellite network.

which allows to communicate in areas with no connectivity.

The launch of the Mate 50 smartphone series on Tuesday, Richard Yu, CEO Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, said that the phones could be able to support satellite-based short messages (SMS).

The day before, Huawei had already released an teaser video that demonstrated this capability, according to Digi Times.

Yu declared that Mate 50 is the world’s first smartphone to support SMS that is based on China’s domestic BeiDou Navigation Satellite System.

It will allow users to send messages of emergency and even locations via satellites even in areas that are not within the territorial coverage of the network.

The Mate 50 with 6.7-inch display and 90Hz OLED panel comes with Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset with 8GB of RAM.

The Mate 50 Pro comes with a slightly larger 6.74-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Both smartphones come with an image resolution of 50MP on the rear camera with an aperture that is adjustable.

The 50 Pro has an upgraded camera that has 64 MP and is capable of 200x digital zoom.
