New Delhi, Sep 7 : The historic Rajpath will be renamed as “Kartavya Path”.The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the renovated ‘Kartavya Path’, as well as Central Vista Avenue on Thursday.The announcement was made by Meenakshi Lekhi, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Culture said that the government will reiterate its the commitment to serve our motherland in this “Amritkaal”.
“As we celebrate 75 years of Independence It is only appropriate to get rid of the colonial baggage and make the transition to India@100 in the Amritkaal our own legacy.
The change of “Rajpath” to “Kartavyapath” is an affirmation that the nature of public service does not mean “right to govern” but “duty to serve,”” the Lok Sabha MP tweeted.
“Congratulations to all citizens for this significant decision.
It will reaffirm our dedication to serve our country in this Amritkaal,” she expressed.
The previous day, on Wednesday on Wednesday, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) approved a plan to change the name of Rajpath as ‘Kartavya’.
After approval the entire stretch from the Netaji statue in India Gate to the Rashtrapati Bhavan is now referred to as Kartavya Path.
It represents an evolution from the former Rajpath being an image of authority to Kartavya Path as an instance of power and ownership by the people.
The Prime Minister will present the statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at India Gate on the occasion.These actions are in accordance with the Prime Minister’s second ‘Panchpran to New India in Amrit Kaal to ‘get rid of any trace of colonial thinking’.
The statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose that will be presented by the Prime Minister is set to be erected in the same location in which a hologram statue of Netaji was revealed earlier this year on Parakram Diwas (January 23) by Netaji.The statue, constructed of granite is an appropriate tribute to the enormous contributions of Netaji to our struggle for freedom and is an expression of our nation’s gratitude to Netaji.
Created by Shri Arun Yogiraj who is the main sculptor.28-foot tall statue is constructed from a monolithic granite rock that weighs 65 MT.
