Berlin 4th September : Samsung Electronics is trying to maintain the rapid growth of the TV business with its Lifestyle TVs, a top executive has stated it is a line of TVs designed to change conventional TV roles in keeping with the rapidly changing patterns of life. “The Lifestyle TVs are an entirely new category that has been well-received by clients, with their sales doubling every year,” said Chung Kang-il who is in charge of the team responsible for developing TVs at Samsung.
“Most of the sales come from overseas,” he added, without providing specific sales figures, at an announcement to the press on the eve of IFA 2022, the world’s largest electronics trade show that kicked off in Berlin the city of Berlin, according to Yonhap news agency.
Samsung has launched seven products in its Lifestyle TV section, starting with the furniture-like The Serif, launched in 2016 to the gaming monitor that is curved Odyssey Ark released just last month.
All products are designed to challenge the traditional TV functions and features by serving as frames for pictures that hang on the wall after the TV has been off, or rotating between portrait and landscape when is necessary, or projecting videos wherever a user desires.
“For younger people, televisions are no anymore an essential requirement.
Samsung is trying to attract them to become our customers by creating TVs that are best suited to their needs,” Chung said.
While the Lifestyle TV series account for just a tiny fraction of Samsung’s TV revenue, he said it could turn into an “meaningful” segment in terms of revenue.
Global TV sales fell by more than 6 percent on a year in the first quarter of this year due to a slowing of demand and economic problems.
In the global market, 92.6 million units of TVs were sold, which was down 6.6 percent from the previous year.By value, the drop was more dramatic at 12.5 percent according to an industry monitor called Omdia.
Samsung is the market top player, with a 31.5 percent market share then followed by LG Electronics Inc.at 17.4 percent.
