The mercury shot up, particularly in the western and eastern regions of Japan as well as the Okinawa and Amami regions, according to Xinhua news agency, citing the JMA for the information.The city of Isesaki located to the north of Tokyo has recorded the nations highest temperature in June, with 40.2 degrees surpassing the previous record of 39.8 set in 2011.The JMA reported that the average temperature of the ocean surface in the waters around Japan this summer was 0.8 degrees higher than the norm which is the highest level since records started in 1982, which was in line with 2001 and 2016.The increase in temperature was due to the Pacific high-pressure system that spanned mostly over the waters south of Japan and global warming could be a factor, the public television station NHK announced on Saturday in a report citing weather experts.
