Chennai 3rd September : The Tamil Nadu Department of cooperation will soon modernize the state’s Public Distribution System (PDS) shops to be in line with international standards.The stores will be upgraded to ensure they can meet ISO 9000 certification in quality control, ISO 28000 for supply chain management, and FSSAI certification for food quality.
The PDS shops will also be upgraded, and cashless payment will be made available to holders of ration cards.
There are 34,773 ration stores in the state, of which 33,377 shops are owned by cooperative societies.
Certain stores in the state are accepting digital payments , and it will expand to other shops all over the state.
Tamil Nadu Cooperation Minister I.Periyasamy in a statement on Friday said that the department was taking various steps to improve the efficiency of the ration stores.Small godowns will be constructed close to the ration shops.
The department, as per the minister has issued an order for the building of new buildings for 6,907 ration stores and property has been identified for 862 buildings and administrative sanctions imposed for the construction of 243 buildings.
At present, 17,473 ration stores in the state are operating in government buildings.
There will be significant changes in the coming months in the coming months due to the latest policies of the department of cooperation.
The minister also said that the construction of new facilities will be built for all shops that ration in the near future.
