New Delhi, Sep 2 : Facebook has announced that it will shut down a hyperlocal feature called Neighborhoods.It was designed to provide a dedicated space for people to connect with neighbours, be part in local communities and discover new local places.Facebook has announced that it will be closing its trial of Neighborhoods beginning on October 1st, at which time the feature will cease to be accessible.
The feature first came out in Canada and later it was rolled out to the US.
Neighborhoods is an opt-in option inside the Facebook app.You can decide whether you wish to sign up to Neighborhoods and create an account.
“When we started Neighborhoods the goal was to bring communities closer together.And we’ve discovered that the best method to accomplish this is by creating groups.” an official from Facebook said in one of the groups.
When people made a Neighborhoods profiles, they decided to add their interests, favourite places, and a bio so that people could get to know them through the Neighborhoods Directory.
They wrote a blog post to introduce themselves, participated in discussions about posts from neighbors, and answered neighborhood Questions in the feed that is specifically designed for it.
“We designed Neighborhoods that are secure and welcoming, with Neighborhoods Guidelines to ensure that interactions between neighbors are relevant and respectful.Neighborhoods include moderators that follow these guidelines to look over comments and posts in the Neighborhoods feed,” Facebook had said.
