Beirut September 2 : The Security Council’s decision to prolong mission of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) for an additional year shows the resolve of the world community to ensure peace and security on the Lebanese southern border, as stated by Lebanese President Michel Aoun.The coordination is in place between the Lebanese army and UNIFIL in an effort to assures the full application of the UN resolution 1701 in all its aspects, particularly the cease-fire of sea, land and air hostilities that are committed by Israel The president was quoted as declaring in the statement issued by Lebanon’s presidency on Wednesday.
Aoun also expressed his gratitude to the nations participating in the UNIFIL for carrying the peacekeeping mission across the border.Xinhua news agency said.
The UN Security Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution that extends the mandate of the UNIFIL for a further year, until August.31st 2023.
The resolution, which gained the unanimous approval of the council of 15 members, acknowledges that the current situation in Lebanon persists to pose an international threat to peace and security.
