San Francisco, Sep 1 : As robotic surgery is becoming more mainstream the US-based robotic surgery advocate Vattikuti Foundation on Thursday announced a unique video contest for robotic surgeons across the globe in September 10 which will be evaluated by an international jury made up of Oxford and Stanford Universities, and New-Delhi India-based AIIMS.The top three winning videos from about 100 entries will be announced from the fields of urology, gynaecology, general surgery, hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery, colorectal, head and neck, paediatric and joint replacement surgeries.
The “KS National Robotic Surgeon Video’ competition has been organized in India from 2015.And this year, it’s gone international for the first time.
“The worldwide healthcare system benefited from the Vattikuti Foundation’s collection of successful robotic surgery videos that originate from India and we sought to expand the library with international expertise.For 2022 the Foundation is pleased to witness an increase of fourfold over submissions in the past” Dr.Mahendra Bhandari who is the CEO of Vattikuti Foundation.
The international jury that chose the winners includes robotic surgeons Dr.David Neal, Professor of Surgical Oncology, Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences at Oxford University, UK; Dr Sherry M Wren Vice Chair and Professor of Surgery, Stanford University, USA and Dr Rajeev Kumar Professor of Urology and Associate Dean, AIIMS, New Delhi.
Submissions were received from robotic surgeons in training employing da Vinci as well as Mako robots.
Many private and public cancer institutes and hospitals are adopting robotic surgery in response to the increasing acceptance of robotic surgery in many regions of the world.
The Detroit-based Foundation has already granted one-year Vattikuti Fellowships to more than 50 surgeons with post-graduate credentials in surgery.
