Serbian government announces energy saving measures

Belgrade on August 31 : The Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia has asked Serbia’s institutions, industries, and people to cut back on their energy consumption and to consider the possibility of producing electricity independently using renewable sources.
The Ministry on Tuesday stated that industries and institutions should conserve energy by switching off the street lighting and decorative lighting and enhancing the efficiency of energy of buildings, such as by installing solar panels and increasing the capacity of renewable energy sources.

The homeowners are encouraged to make use of appliances that are more intelligent and think about generating energy themselves from renewable sources Xinhua news agency reported.

“The economy and energy crises in the European markets, first caused by an increase in demand in the post-Covid era and later due to the war in Ukraine and geopolitical turmoil on a global scale that these events have caused the need for each country to invest additional resources in order to ensure stability and security in the energy sector,” the Ministry added.

It was reported that Serbia’s average daily consumption of electricity is approximately 90 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in the summer period and 120 GWh a day in the winter season.

“Possible savings in the use of thermal and electric energy are a significant source of improving security of energy and cutting cost.

The estimates suggest that 15% of the daily consumption of electricity in Serbia Republic of Serbia can be saved.At an annual scale this is equivalent to 5,300 GWh of the total of 33,000 GWh used.

In other words, there is no need to import anything,” it added.
