Berlin 30 August : German authorities will conduct a series of planned detonations following an explosion at a blasting location for police is believed to have caused the destruction of a forest fire in Berlin’s Grunewald forest.The police on Tuesday announced a wide range of security measures and closed the area around it in advance of Wednesday’s operation, according to the news agency dpa.
In the first week of August there was a fire that was reported at the blasting location following an explosion, however the precise circumstances of the incident haven’t been uncovered.
The fire brigade fought to put out the flames in the forest surrounding for several days.
World War II bombs and ammunition, as also illegal fireworks are stored at the site, however authorities are currently considering moving the site to be farther away from residential areas.
According to the police the detonations are scheduled to take place on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Four “bombs that are no anymore appropriate for use” are scheduled to explode they said.
The zone of security around the site of the explosion is being widened.
Between 7.30 a.m.until 4 p.m.The A15 motorway as well as the railway line parallel to it will be shut down.
