New Delhi, Aug 30 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Kerala as well as Karnataka on September 1 and 2.On September 1st he will officially launch the world’s first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant at Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi, Kerala.
During his visit to Karnataka the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of projects worth approximately $3800 crore in Mangaluru.
In Kochi, he will commission the first indigenously built and designed aircraft carrier the INS Vikrant.
It was designed by the in-house Indian Navy Warship Design Bureau (WDB) and constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited, Vikrant was constructed with modern automation features and is the largest vessel ever constructed in the history of maritime shipping of India according to an official statement stated.
The aircraft carrier is named in honor of her legendary predecessor, India’s very first aircraft carrier that played a significant role in the war of 1971.
At the time of the event the PM Modi will also present the brand new Naval Ensign (Nishaan) which will be rid of the association with the past of colonialism, and fitting with the vast Indian maritime history.
Then, in Mangaluru, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of industrialisation and mechanisation projects worth about $3800 million.
He will unveil a plan that is worth more than Rs 280 crore for the mechanisation of containers handling berths and other cargo.It is being carried out by the New Mangalore Port Authority.
The mechanised terminal will boost efficiency and cut down on turnaround time as well as the pre-berthing delay and the time spent in the Port by 35 percent, improving the overall business climate.
The Prime Minister will place the foundation stone of five projects that are estimated to cost approximately Rs 1,000 crore executed by the Port.
