Geneva 30 Aug : Israeli President Isaac Herzog reiterated the country’s concerns about Iran’s nuclear policy ahead of an agreement to stop Tehran from developing nuclear weapons. The international community should never be silent about Iran’s efforts to increase terror in the region and erase Israel out of the picture, Herzog said during a meeting with Swiss President Ignazio Cassis in Bern on Monday.
“We hope that members of the family of nations to clarify this point The international community and the countries that proudly advocate for peace, must not accept demands and efforts to eliminate an unresolved member of the state of the UN,” dpa news agency quoted the Israeli President as declaring.
Iran’s actions “cannot be addressed with silence”, Herzog said.
“Iran’s actions cannot be tolerated unpunished. Most importantly this state must not be permitted to have nuclear capability.Iran must be denied these capabilities by any means essential.”
There are efforts underway to revive the 2015 Vienna agreement to put in place limits on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for relief from sanctions.
Tehran insists that its nuclear research is exclusively to be used by the civilian population.
Yet, Israel has repeatedly slammed the current version of the agreement.
Herzog’s comments came just a few hours following the day that Premier Yair Lapid said Iran will just wait for a while until it could begin building weapons again and that the agreement isn’t a sufficient level of surveillance to guarantee Iranian compliance.
