Berlin 29 Aug : Berlin, Aug 29 : in Germany are facing criticism after reports suggest of officers spraying peppers on a person who died after being detained could have erased the footage of the incident off of the mobile phone of a passer-by.In an incident that became the talk of the town during the time, the 39-year old was adamantly against the arrest on August 7, and officers were forced to spray him with pepper spray according to the news agency DPA.
Eight police officers are currently under an investigation over grievous bodily injury to the man who died shortly after his arrest in the western German town of Oer-Erkenschwick.
A post-mortem report has not revealed the cause of death for the 39-year-old’s death the office of the public prosecutor stated on Sunday.
The suspect is believed to be intoxicated of drugs.
German police have come under a variety of allegations of brutality during protests and arrests with the issue of scrutiny being raised in the aftermath of protests of mass scale in the country as well as elsewhere in reaction to widely shared footage of the murder of George Floyd during an arrest by US police.
According to police, about 150 spectators watched the police action during the time.with many of them filming the event with their phones.
Based on the current state of the investigation there are indications that in at the very least one instance officers may have deleted the film recorded on the cell phone of a passerby the office of the public prosecutor stated.
This could be considered to be evidence of the possibility of coercion from officers.
Four officers are being examined for coercion.
The public prosecutor announced that a specialist company has been appointed to retrieve videos that may have been deleted on the victims’ cellphones.
Then the investigators urged others who were witnesses of the incident to get in touch with the police.
