New Delhi, Aug 27 : Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K.Sangma on Saturday announced that his party -The National People’s Party (NPP) will not enter into any pre-poll alliance with any party, not even the BJP for the upcoming Assembly elections in Meghalaya. “It is not only the BJP we aren’t joining the coalition with any of the political parties,” Sangma said.
The elections for the assembly in Meghalaya are expected to be held in the beginning of next year.
However, on the issue of the NPP’s relationship with National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Sangma said that the NPP will be in the BJP-controlled NDA and will continue to support it on an issues on a basis.
“We have always backed the NDA.The election contest concerns the character of the parties.When the election is over and if a situation arises that requires us to form a coalition government, we’ll take a decision the same way as in the past, whenever a the need arises.
In the past, we were in support of the NDA and collaborated with the coalition government,” he said.
The Meghalaya Chief Minister also stated that the two parties -both BJP as well as NPP are not on the same page with regard to numerous issues.
He addressed an media briefing following the National Executive Meet here on Saturday.
The president of the national party of the NPP stated: “In less than six years of the party’s inception, NPP has got the status of a national party while other parties in politics are struggling.This is not only an act of pride, but a sign that the NPP has been popular in the region and that the people would like to hear from the NPP to represent the voice of the people and platform for the voiceless.”
Sangma added that the party will participate in the upcoming assembly elections in Odisha as well as Chhattisgarh.
The Meghalaya Chief Minister added that NPP will not remain confined within the boundaries of the northeast, and added that the party is contemplating to run for assembly elections in Rajasthan as well as Madhya Pradesh as well.
But, he also maintained that the NPP will remain focused on the state elections in Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
