Tehran, Aug 27 : The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed that Tehran considers the resolution of the “fake and politically-motivated” safeguards issues as a vital necessity for reaching an agreement in the talks on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in the course of a phone call with the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday, in which the two sides also discussed a variety of international and regional issues as well as the ongoing Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference, Xinhua news agency reported according to the official website of the ministry.
Amir-Abdollahian said that Iran has, in practice, proved that its determination to achieve an “robust and long-lasting” agreement is both serious and genuine.
He said that Iran received on Wednesday the American side’s response to Tehran’s opinions regarding the European Union (EU)’s proposed draft of an upcoming nuclear agreement.
The country is currently studying and evaluating the proposal.
Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN secretary-general, said Thursday that the UN chief stressed in the statement that it is crucial that all parties work towards restart of the nuclear agreement officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Iran agreed to sign the JCPOA with world powers in July of 2015, agreeing to limit the nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions against the country.However the then US president Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the agreement and imposed sanctions against Tehran.
The talks for the renewal of the nuclear agreement of 2015 were initiated in April 2021 in Vienna but were halted in March due to of differences in the political landscape between Tehran and Washington.
The most recent session of the nuclear talks conducted in the capital of Austria Vienna in early August following an absence of five months.
On August 8th the EU released the “final draft” of the draft decision regarding the renewal of the 2015 nuclear agreement.
Iran provided its response in writing EU’s draft of an agreement couple of days later, and was able to receive on Wednesday via the EU and the US government’s response to Tehran’s opinions on the solution of the remaining questions in the nuclear negotiations.
