Dubai 26 August : India women’s team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has been added to the young opener Shafali Verma in the International Cricket Council’s “100 percent Cricket Superstars” list released on Friday.Shafali Verma, England’s Sophie Ecclestone, New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr, West Indies’ Hayley Matthews and South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt were the first group of what will eventually be a “100 percent Cricket Superstars” squad that fans can select from to select the final XI.
On Friday the ICC added five additional athletes who make up part of the program -the following: Mandhana, Fatima Sana (Pakistan), Ashleigh Gardner (Australia), Sophia Dunkley (England) and Gaby Lewis (Ireland).
Mandhana 26 is on track to complete her 10th year in cricket internationally.
She has earned herself the title of one of the most comprehensive all-format players in the world.Her record is clear with her ability to combine an aggressive approach to the top of the list with an uncanny knack for hitting big runs.
Mandhana has played in 74 ODIs, totalling 2,892 runs, at an average of 42.52, with five centuries and 23 fiveties.In T20I cricket, she has 2,192 runs in 92 games with 16 half-centuries in her record.Mandhana is also a Test player and has a century and two fifty-fives in the format.
Mandhana has also established herself as a leader in Indian women’s cricket as it transitions from the time of Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami.
Her consistency has led to her designated the 2021 ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year.
She was also placed 10th and 4th in the ICC Women’s Player Rankings for batters in T20Is and ODIs respectively.
