Mumbai 25th August : Veteran filmmaker Sawan Kumar Tak — who was behind blockbusters such as “Souten” — has passed away due to several health issues in Mumbai in Mumbai on Thursday.His family members said.Tak was 86 and was survived by his wife, renowned music director Usha Khanna, as well as other relatives.
He died after suffering an attack on the heart at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital, after fighting chest and lung related illnesses for the last few days his nephew Navin informed the media.
Tak started his career in film in 1967 when he wrote the script for the smash musical ‘Naunihal’, for which the Mohammed Rafi song ‘Meri Awaz Suno’ was filmed at the time of the funeral procession of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1967.
In his 55-year Bollywood career, Tak had made over 20 films, including the musical blockbuster “Souten” (1983) with Rajesh Khanna, Tina Munim (Ambani) and Padmini Kolhapure.
Other notable film productions in his studio included “Gomti Ke Kinare” (1972) his first directorial venture that was also the final film of his close friend and famous actress Meena Kumari, starring Mumtaz as well as Sameer Khan, even though it was not a success at the box office.
Not discouraged, he later came up with musicals such as “Hawas” (1974 which starred Anil Dhawan and Neetu Singh and introducing late actress Vidya Sinha) The film ‘Saajan bina Suhagana’ (1978), ‘Saajan Ki Saheli’ (1981), ‘Sanam Bewafaa’ (1991, starring Salman Khan and Chandni)and “Khalnaaika’ (1993)”Chaan Ki Tukda” (1994 with Salman Khan and Sridevi), Shatrughan Sinha) and so on.
The Jaipur-born film star also wrote lyrics, wrote screenplays and directed films in his lengthy Bollywood career.
