Los Angeles, Aug 24 : The political thriller film ‘Killers and Diplomats’ that tells the tale of four American missionary women murdered and raped in El Salvador in 1980 during the civil war in the Central American nation, is in the making, according to “Variety”.Projected Picture Works, the company started by Sean Penn last year, has been contracted to produce the film.
According to the ‘Variety’ “Killers & Diplomats” follows the story of a young U.S.diplomat who cracked the case by establishing an unlikely source taking risks to find the crucial evidence.
The Salvadoran Civil War was fought between the government of El Salvador and the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) which was a alliance of left-wing organizations.
A coup on the 15th of October 1979, followed by the government executions of protesters who opposed the coup, began the civil war.
The film is inspired by an article written by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Raymond Bonner.
“Variety” further states that ‘Killers and Diplomats’ is written by Michael Nourse and John Tyler McClain who wrote the screenplay that was included in the 2021 Annual Black List.
Projected Picture Works was founded by Sean Penn, John Ira Palmer and John Wildermuth in 2021.
