Jakarta 24 Aug : The 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck the western province of Indonesia of Bengkulu However, there was no report of injuries or damage officials claimed.The geophysics, meteorology, and climatology agency didn’t issue a tsunami advisory because the tremors didn’t have the potential to cause huge waves in the waters off the province, Xinhua news agency reported.
The quake hit around 21:31 Jakarta time, with the epicenter at 64 km southwest of Kaur district, and the depth of 12 km beneath the seabed.
The shaking was not only observed in the surrounding provinces of Lampung, South Sumatra, West Sumatra and Jambi.
A spokesperson for the country’s National disaster mitigation and management agency Abdul Muhari said the jolts did not cause any damage or leave people wounded.
“So so far, there have been no initial reports of damage to homes or buildings here, or people killed because of the tremors” he told the news agency by phone.
The spokesperson said that reports similar to the one he was referring to came from two of the most devastated areas, which are the Kaur district in Bengkulu province, and the Liwa town of West Lampung district in Lampung province.
“The shaking of the earthquakes were felt in this area but they didn’t cause damage in any way, not even in the Kaur district,” Ibnu Hasyim, the head of the logistic division of the agency for disaster management and mitigation of Bengkulu province, said.
